What is a socket bone graft?

A Polanco, Mexico City socket bone graft is also known as an alveolar ridge preservation graft. It eliminates the need for an additional procedure to place the bone graft material in the future. We can use donor tissue or synthetic tissue for your socket bone graft in Polanco, Mexico City.

The process for a Socket Bone Graft

Socket bone grafting is typically done at the same time as a tooth is extracted. Some patients prefer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or IV sedation for their procedure to ensure their comfort, while others are fine using local anesthesia. If you decide to use oral or IV sedation, you’ll need to have a friend or family member drive you home. When we remove a tooth, we place bone graft material into the tooth’s socket, cover it with a piece of thin membrane to stabilize the socket, and place stitches to keep everything in place.

What to expect after your Socket Bone Graft

It’s normal to have light bleeding after your procedure; apply light pressure to stop the bleeding. Avoid spitting, forcefully swishing, or using a straw, as these activities can make bleeding worse and may dislodge the graft material. It is normal to have mild discomfort after socket bone grafting. You can use over-the-counter pain medication, like ibuprofen or acetaminophen, painkillers to reduce your discomfort.

The particles for a Polanco, Mexico City socket bone graft are small and resemble kosher salt. You may feel some of these pieces in your tooth socket or other areas of your mouth. This is normal and no cause for concern. Some membranes and stitches dissolve on their own, while others need to be removed two to four weeks later. We will let you know what type of membrane and stitches you have, and will remove them as needed at your follow-up visits when we check for healing. It takes three to six months for the graft to be replaced by your own bone.

How does a socket bone graft improve your oral health?

When you lose a tooth, your jawbone rapidly begins to break down. Without your tooth’s root in place to stimulate the jawbone, your jaw receives signals that it’s no longer needed. Your bone begins to deteriorate so your body can absorb it. This jawbone degradation can cause your facial features to distort or contribute to issues with your other teeth. A socket bone graft in Polanco, Mexico City prevents this bone loss so that you’re less likely to experience dental issues.

What are the benefits of a socket bone graft?

A socket bone graft has numerous advantages for our patients:

A Socket Bone Graft is less expensive

Since we complete your Polanco, Mexico City socket bone graft when we extract your tooth, this makes the procedure less expensive than scheduling a separate bone graft after the tooth has been removed.

You’ll prevent changes to your appearance and smile

By being proactive about preserving your jawbone, you’ll maintain your facial structure and keep your other teeth from shifting. This ensures that your tooth extraction has a minimal impact on your smile and will allow you to replace your missing tooth with a dental implant or a bridge.

Your graft requires no additional healing time

When we combine a socket bone graft with a tooth extraction, this won’t prolong your healing period. If you opt for a separate bone graft, you’ll require a separate recovery period before you can have your implant or bridge placed.
