What is gum grafting?

Gum recession occurs when your gums pull away from your teeth, eventually exposing their roots. This makes your teeth more susceptible to cavities, tooth sensitivity, and other dental problems.

A gum graft is an effective treatment for addressing gum damage and gum recession.

Usually, we get the tissue for your gum graft from your palate (the roof of your mouth). We can occasionally use gum line tissue that’s located close to the tooth that’s lacking sufficient gum tissue.

Donor tissue is also an option if you don’t have enough tissue to complete the graft.

The process for Gum Grafting

We begin Polanco, Mexico City gum grafting by utilizing the appropriate level of dental sedation and local anesthesia to make sure you’re comfortable during the procedure.

Then, if we’re using tissue from the roof of your mouth, we’ll use an incision to cut the tissue away. We then stitch it to the area that’s receiving the graft.

Or, if we’re using a pedicle graft that uses tissue close to the tooth experiencing gum recession, we’ll cut the gums, stretch the tissue to cover the affected tooth, and stitch it into place.

What to expect after Gum Grafting

If you decide you want a sedative or heavy dental anesthesia to make gum grafting in Polanco, Mexico City more comfortable, you’ll definitely need someone to drive you home.

Avoid brushing or flossing the area with the gum graft until it’s completely healed. You’ll rinse your mouth with a special mouth rinse to minimize plaque that can impede the healing process.

Plan on eating soft foods for a couple of weeks after your gum graft. Stay away from spicy or hot foods that can irritate the sensitive tissue.

You can control surgery-related pain with prescription and over-the-counter pain medication. If we use stitches during the procedure, we’ll remove them two weeks a week or so after your surgery.
